The Two Qualities Great Mentors Have

sports2

I've been blessed to have quite a few outstanding mentors in my life.

All of the best ones had two things in common:

1. I knew they genuinely cared about me.
2. They were great listeners.

Many coaches have asked me with regard to mentoring, "What do I say? What do I talk about?"

The best three words for mentoring are: Tell me about ...

And then listen.

A great mentor is someone you want to go back to. You want to speak with them again and more often than not it is because you know that they care about you and you know that they will listen.

So start off your conversation with the words ... Tell me about (insert whatever you would like to know) and then genuinely listen. Follow that up with questions concerning things they just told you about ...

Care and Listen.

Virtue = Strength,
