Challenges, obstacles, adversity......words that we hear and have to deal with on a daily basis. They come so frequently that many of us have resigned ourselves to a life of mediocrity. Why try?? Our grandiose plans will never be realized anyway.

Cincinnati LaSalle high school football, like most football programs, has had its fair share of challenges in their 55 years of existence. But that did not deter Head Football Coach, Nate Moore from doing something about it at the beginning of last year's football season. He decided that leadership development and team building had to be emphasized more if they expected to meet the challenges that would occur. So, he called up SportsLeader and asked for a senior leadership/team building workshop to kick off the 2014 football season. So for three hours, SportsLeader led senior players (and some other junior leaders) through practical ways to lead, confront, persevere and solve matters of "team". The feedback was AWESOME and their season seemed to prove that it had an impact with the LaSalle football team winning the OHSAA Division II State Football Championship-the first football championship in LaSalle's history!

Well, of course with a new season there comes new challenges, new obstacles, new adversity. Probably, the biggest for LaSalle for the 2015 football season is a new head coach, Jim Hilvert and the expectation that LaSalle can/should repeat as State Champs. So, HFC Hilvert, knowing that you can NEVER do enough leadership development and team building, decided to bring in SportsLeader again to work. However, this year doing a full team workshop involving 100 players seemed to fit best.

So SportsLeader came in last Thursday night and worked with the whole LaSalle team, emphasizing self-awareness, role recognition, peer mentoring and challenging teammates to do their best every day no matter the circumstance. And just like in 2014, the training was a great success; one can only hope that the football season can have the same result on the scoreboard!

While many in our society seemingly have given up on the pursuit of daily personal leadership development and team building, SportsLeader is committed to those educators, coaches and athletes who BELIEVE and WANT and NEED better ways to build better leadership on their teams. Yes, there are many days that it feels like the challenge is next to impossible! Indeed, it is an uphill battle but a battle well worth the time and toil. We CAN have great teams. We CAN have effective senior leadership. We CAN have teammates holding teammates accountable to the values of the team. However, if we really are serious about this type of success-we have to step up to the challenge and do something MORE than what we are doing now. Know that SportsLeader is here specifically for that reason; to help coaches and teams conquer the problems of poor leadership and selfishness among team members. We CAN have seasons that others think could never, ever happen.

"The problems of the world cannot possibly be solved by skeptics or cynics whose horizons are limited by the obvious realities. We need men and women who can dream of things that never were."

Thank you- Cincinnati LaSalle High School for that belief and taking the time and effort to do something about it!
